I’m lucky enough to have had the chance to see The Grateful Dead in concert. Jerry was not at his best and I was just 11 years old, but I still got to see my favorite band with my own eyes in my life.
My father got my sister and I tickets as a gift. My sister, almost 16 at the time went with some friends and sat 10 or so rows down from my father and I.
This is also the first time I saw people smoke pot for the first time. It was during the first set. The men in front of us started passing something back and forth between themselves. I asked my dad what they were doing “smoking pot”. “Ohhhhhhh”. They danced from one song and then sat down for the next three songs. I remember thinking, “weird, seems to just make you tired, if you want to dance, why would you smoke that stuff?”
